It was an important transportation route of the fur traders 150 years ago. Abandoned forts, gold mining camps are reminders of a colorful history. This overnight canoe trip is the ideal short nature escape as well as an introduction to river paddling and wilderness camping. Price includes all canoeing equipment, 2-person tents and all other necessary camping equipment (except sleeping bag), eating utensils, transportation, meals, camping fees, instructions and guide. 5-Day Athabasca River Wilderness Trip An action filled adventure starting Saturday morning in Edmonton with a 4-hour drive into the foothills for canoe instructions and training on a lake. Next day we launch the boats near the town of Hinton and from now on there is no looking back until we reach the end of the trip 160 kilometers and four days later. Beginners are welcome and will learn as they go while there are plenty of challenges for experienced paddlers. This is a wildernmess trip with three nights camping on islands in the river or secluded spots along the shores. We are back in Edmonton by late Wednesday afternoon.
